Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup groeit gestaag richting eerste wedstrijd op Circuit Zolder!

Eind maart werd de Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup 2023 in Mettet op gang getrapt met meer dan 30 ingeschreven wagens en voor de eerste wedstrijd op Circuit Zolder groeit dat aantal nog met bijna 50% aan. Dit weekend tekent namelijk een 45-tal wagens present voor de eerste van drie meetings op Circuit Zolder; een glashelder bewijs dat de Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup onder een gelukkig gesternte werd geboren!

“Voor 2023 zagen we een flinke stijging in het aantal vaste inschrijvingen, maar we merken dat ook heel wat deelnemers opteren voor een race-by-race-aanmelding”, verduidelijkt Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup-promotor Andy Jaenen. “We vermoeden dat enkele deelnemers de praktische gevolgen van ons nieuwe reglement afgewacht hebben en bijgevolg na de seizoensopener in Mettet besloten hebben om in Zolder te starten. Voor mij is dit dan ook de duidelijke bevestiging dat ons nieuwe reglement werkt. Deelnemers kunnen inschrijven in de klasse die het best aansluit bij de intrinsieke snelheid van hun bolide en het beschikbare budget. Dat draagt bovendien bij tot een directe strijd op de piste in elke klasse. Zo opteren bijvoorbeeld bepaalde deelnemers voor semi-slicks om de kosten te drukken, zonder dat ze daardoor een anonieme race zullen afwerken.”

Een betekenisvolle groei dus voor de Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup, ook op vlak van variatie. “De individuele klassen zijn geen monomerkenverhaal. Alle klassen zijn goed gestoffeerd en er is strijd tussen verschillende merken. Wat mij ook tevreden stemt, is dat we een aantal deelnemers zien doorstromen vanuit de Skylimit-trackdays naar de Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup. Parallel daarmee zien we ook enkele prominente namen uit ons kampioenschap starten in het Belcar Endurance Championship. Hét bewijs dat onze piramide werkt. De Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup is uitgegroeid tot de opstapklasse die het wilde zijn en biedt voor ieder wat wils. Dat is enkel maar positief voor de Belgische autosport, want we zien naast een groei in de Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup ook positieve cijfers in de zusterkampioenschappen, het Belcar Endurance Championship en de Belcar Historic Cup.”

Zowel de Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup, het Belcar Endurance Championship als de Belcar Historic Cup tekenen dit weekend present op Circuit Zolder voor het New Race Festival. In de Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup verdedigt BSSC4-deelnemer Davy Cooreman zijn koppositie in de algemene tussenstand. De Honda-rijder telt 3 punten bonus op de Cupra TCR van Yardy Hoogwerf en Steven Teirinck en de BMW van Steven Maris; die allen uitkomen in BSSC5. Op zaterdag staan twee kwalificatiesessies van 30 minuten op het programma, waarna op zondag om klokslag 11u de start wordt gegeven voor de eerste sprintrace over 30 minuten. Om 17u20 kruisen de deelnemers een tweede maal de degens voor aan afsluitende sprint van opnieuw een halfuur.

The Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup 2023 kicked off in Mettet at the end of March, with more than 30 entrants, and for the first race at Circuit Zolder this number has increased by near on 50%.

In fact, this coming weekend some 45 cars will be on hand for the first of three meetings at Circuit Zolder; crystal clear proof that the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup was born under a lucky star!

“We have seen a steady increase in the number of fixed registrations in 2023, but we noticed that a fair number of competitors are still opting for a race-by-race-entry”, the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup promotor Andy Jaenen clarified. “We suspect that some participants waited for the practical consequences of our new regulations and consequently following the opening round in Mettet, then decided to be at the start in Zolder. For me this is a clear confirmation that our new regulations work. Competitors can select the class that best suits the intrinsic speed of their car and the available budget. On top of that it contributes to a direct battle on the track and in each class. As an example, some competitors opt for running semi-slicks to reduce costs, without having to finish off an anonymous race.”

As such a meaningful growth for the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup, also when it comes to variety. “The individual classes are not a one-make story. All classes are well filled and there is strong competition between the various makes. What also pleases me is that we have seen a number of participants move on from the Skylimit-trackdays to the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup. In parallel with that we also see several prominent names emanating from our championship moving up into the Belcar Endurance Championship. Proof that our pyramid works. The Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup has evolved into a step-up class it wished to be and offers up something for everyone. This is undoubtedly positive for the Belgian motorsport, because apart from the growth in the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup we also come across positive numbers in the sister championships, the Belcar Endurance Championship and the Belcar Historic Cup.”

Not only the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup, but the Belcar Endurance Championship and the Belcar Historic Cup will all be present at Circuit Zolder this weekend for the New Race Festival. In the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup the BSSC4 entrant Davy Cooreman will be defending his leader’s position in the overall intermediate rankings. The Honda driver has a 3 points bonus on the Cupra TCR manned by Yardy Hoogwerf and Steven Teirinck and the BMW of Steven Maris; all competing in BSSC5. Two qualifying sessions of 30 minutes are on the programme on Saturday, followed by the start on Sunday, on the dot of 11.00hrs, for the first sprint race held over 30 minutes. The competitors will once again go head-to-head a second time at 17.20hrs for a further sprint of half-an-hour.
