Decisive final round of the season for the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup at Circuit Zolder

This coming weekend the curtain falls on the third year of the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup. The tried and tested recipe of two sprints held over 30 minutes will be brought out at Circuit Zolder, after which we will be crowning the various champions of the most popular and diverse sprint championship of the Low Countries.

Once again for this season’s final the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup expects to reach the 40 entrants mark, with more than six cars in each class. “My hope and expectations for the last two sprints of the season is that the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup continues in the season’s same positive line. That entails a fierce and fair battle on the track and a fun and convivial atmosphere in the paddock.”

There is a great deal at stake in the two 30 minutes sprints, as there remain quite a few titles to be shared out. “After a downright dominant season with seven victories out of eight races, Steven Maris is already assured of the overall title and the crown in BSSC5”, Andy Jaenen, the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup organiser commented.  “Laurents Cloots is also already assured of the class title in BSSC2, while Dirk De Bock will have enough with two points to be crowned champion in BSSC3. Daniel Donkels, De Bock’s only rival, knows what he has to do: win, just like during the first race in Spa earlier this year! In BSSC4 Tom Van Eenaeme has a 14 points bonus on Wouter Manderveld, while Davy Cooreman with a 22 points deficit, also has a mathematical chance of claiming the title.  To achieve this the Honda driver will need to end the season in the way he started it, with a double victory. In BSSC1 Davy Van Goethem is on course for the title, with 18 points lead on the female duo Stella Keutmann/Nele Von der Ruhren.”

With this season’s final round we also come across several new names, drivers coming to Circuit Zolder to become acquainted with the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup. “In fact, even with our very last sprints we still manage to inspire new drivers”, a smiling Andy Jaenen commented. “Even more, I reckon that the battle for overall victory has never been as promising as this weekend. On the one hand Steven Maris can fight flat out, now that he no longer needs to take into account the points standing. On the other hand, not only do we have the full-blooded Peugeot 308 TCR sprint machine of the Luxembourg hill-climb specialist Michel Fernandes at the start, but the Lievens family has also been able to fine tune their BMW M2 Competition these last few weeks following their podium place in their debut weekend. Peter Pauls has also prepared his TCR-Opel Astra and we also have former professional football player Ruud Boffin at the start with a highly potent BMW M4 GT4. David Vyncke is back in action and competing in BSSC3 with a Renault Clio straight out of the JFT Racing workshops. Last but not least, Max Rosam is a new name in our championship. Among others he has experience with the BMW M2 CS Racing with which he claimed the vice-champion title in the BMW M2 Cup, but this weekend has opted for a BMW E36 328i entered in BSSC4. As such a reputable competitor for Tom Van Eenaeme and Wouter Manderveld!”

The NASCAR European championship is visiting Circuit Zolder this coming weekend, and within that excellent programme the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup will be holding the qualifying sessions on Saturday at 09.15hrs and 16.00hrs, while on Sunday there will be two 30 minutes battles for victory at 10.30hrs and 12.30hrs.
