Spannend seizoen in de 2023 Skylimit Belcar Sprint Cup

🇧🇪 Start Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup 2023 in Mettet met 35 wagens!

Voor de opener van de derde jaargang van de Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup, kan organisator Skylimit Events rekenen op meer dan 30 deelnemers. Promotor Andy Jaenen licht de reglementswijzigingen toe en blikt vooruit op wat een uitermate spannend seizoen belooft te worden!

“We behouden wat goed was en sturen bij waar we verbetermogelijkheden zagen”, stelt Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup-promotor Andy Jaenen duidelijk. “Na twee seizoenen kennen we de succesingrediënten van het kampioenschap wel en onze grootste bekommernis was ervoor te zorgen dat de Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup ook de komende jaren kan blijven groeien. We zetten daarom nog harder in op betaalbaarheid en dat blijkt zijn vruchten te hebben afgeworpen als we kijken naar de deelnemerslijst.”

De belangrijkste wijziging voor 2023 situeert zich in de samenstelling van de klassen. “We vertrouwen niet langer op de cilinderinhoud, maar kijken naar de intrinsieke snelheid van de wagens. Iedereen komt uit in een klasse waar een ‘performance window’ geldt van vijf seconden. De traagste wagens brengen we onder in BSCC1, de snelste komen uit in BSCC5. De keuze om je wagen te upgraden kan dus zomaar betekenen dat je een klasse opschuift en je hierdoor te maken krijgt met fellere concurrentie. Op die manier is er voor elk wat wils en hebben ook de ‘kleinere wagens’, bijvoorbeeld een Peugeot 206 of een Suzuki Swift, absoluut hun plaats.”

“We zetten ook de titelstrijd in de verf, met het gros van de punten die te verdienen zijn op basis van de uitslag in de verschillende klassen. Het is vrij waarschijnlijk dat de algemene winnaar op het circuit uit BSCC5 zal komen, maar de strijd om de titel moet spannend blijven doordat er binnen je eigen klasse veel punten te verdienen zijn. Zo kan iemand die zijn klasse domineert in pakweg BSCC3 absoluut aanspraak maken op de algemene, Belgische titel.”

“Ik ben ook bijzonder fier op onze kalender die er kwam in samenwerking met Kronos Events. Als kampioenschap dat zich onder andere richt op debutanten, is het kostenaspect primordiaal. Een buitenlandse uitstap is daarom uit den boze, maar toch zijn we erin geslaagd om wedstrijden te plannen op onze drie Belgische circuits. Een mooie variatie dus en een flinke uitdaging voor onze deelnemers.”

Als we het hebben over de deelnemers, dan kijken we in eerste instantie naar de seizoensopener dit weekend op het Circuit Jules Tacheny in Mettet. Liefst 35 wagens prijken op de voorlopige inschrijvingslijst, een aantal dat de volgende wedstrijden nog belooft te groeien. Die wagens zijn bovendien ook netjes verdeeld over de verschillende klassen, met vier wagens in BSSC1 en BSSC5, vijf in BSSC2, acht in BSSC4 en 14 bolides in BSSC3.

Deze vrijdag, 24 maart, staan in de namiddag de trainingen op het menu, waarna op zaterdag om 12u15 het startsein wordt gegeven voor de allereerste sprintrace van het seizoen 2023. Om 16u30 wordt vervolgens de tweede sprintrace over 30 minuten op gang gevlagd.

Wie Namen als puntenleider zal verlaten, is koffiedik kijken. De strijd kondigt zich alleszins ongemeen spannend aan!

For the opening round of the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup’s third year, the Skylimit Events organiser can count on more than 30 participants. Andy Jaenen, the promoter, explains in detail the changes made to the rules and looks ahead to what promises to be an extremely thrilling season!

“We retained what was good and made adjustments where we saw improvement possibilities”, the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup promotor Andy Jaenen clearly stated. “After two seasons we now know the championship’s ingredients for success and our main concern was to ensure that the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup can also continue to grow and develop. In this light we are pushing ever harder to focus on affordability and this appears to have borne its fruit when we analyse the entry list.”

For 2023 the major changes are to be found in the composition of the classes. “We no longer rely on engine capacity, but are looking at a car’s intrinsic speed. Everyone will compete in a class where there is a five-seconds ‘performance window’. The slowest cars will appear in BSCC1, with the fastest competing in BSCC5. Those opting to upgrade their car could therefore result in being moved up a class and facing tougher competition. In this way there is something for everyone and even the ‘smaller cars’, such as a Peugeot 206 or a Suzuki Swift, definitely have their place.”

“We also highlighting the battle for the title, with the bulk of the points to be earned based on the result in the various classes. It is more than likely that the circuit winner will come from the BSCC5, nonetheless the battle for the title must remain exciting as many points are to be gained in one’s own class. As such, a driver who dominates his class in say BSCC3 can absolutely lay claim to the overall, Belgian title.”

“I’m also particularly proud of our calendar that came about in collaboration with Kronos Events. As a championship that focusses, among others on rookies, the cost aspect is overriding. A foreign visit is therefore out of the question, but we did succeed in planning competitions on our three Belgian circuits. In fact, a nice variation and a solid challenge for our participants.”

When it comes to the participants, the first thing that comes to mind is the season’s opening round this weekend at the Circuit Jules Tacheny in Mettet. No less than 35 cars feature on the provisional entry list, a number that promises to grow over the following races. On top of that these cars are neatly spread over the various classes, with four cars in BSSC1 and BSSC5, five in BSSC2, eight in BSSC4 and 14 machines in BSSC3.

This coming Friday, 24^th March, the practice sessions are on the programme in the afternoon, after which on Saturday at 12.15hrs the start will be given for the first ever sprint race of the 2023 season. The second sprint race held over 30 minutes then follows at 16.30hrs.

Whoever leaves Mettet as the points leader is anyone guess. One thing is for sure, the battle promises to be an awesome one!
