Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup will sprint at the longest race of the year!

This coming weekend the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup 2023 will be rounding the cape of the first half of the season. The sprint championship will be tackling two traditional sprints of 30 minutes on the Formula 1 circuit of Spa-Francorchamps as curtain raiser of the longest race on the calendar, the highly popular 25 Hours Fun Cup. Steven Maris will be heading off for the most beautiful circuit in the world with his BMW as leader in the provisional rankings. He holds a 21 point lead on the BMW of Dirk De Bock and 35 points on the Davy Van Goethem and Laurens Cloots duo, who are tied for third place in the provisional rankings.

So far Steven Maris has been able to head home with a medal after each race and as such has been rewarded with the provisional leader’s position. Can the BSSC3 driver continue this run of successes on a new circuit on the calendar of the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup 2023, the F1 track in Francorchamps? “This is a question that both Steven and the assembled competitors will be asking” Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup promotor Andy Jaenen commented. “21 points is a somewhat comfortable lead, but not of that order that Steven can rest on his laurels. Competition is fierce, that’s for sure! Following on from Mettet and Circuit Zolder the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup has not only reached its third meeting, but boasts another circuit on the programme. Once again it will be a question of adapting, because in no way can the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps be compared to those of Mettet or Zolder. On top of that the competitors have had some two months to prepare for this race, so count on them being keen to produce a good result!”

When it comes to the number of entrants the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup is riding high this season, and the trend continues on through in Spa-Francorchamps. “Once again, we expect some forty cars at the start, and not only will we be welcoming a number of new faces, but also several known ones will be reappearing. As such Milan Feytons and Lucas Wijnant will be making their motorsport debut at the wheel of a Peugeot 206 GTI entered in the BSSC1 class. In the past both drivers clinched the title in the Virtual Skylimit Sprint Cup and are now swapping the virtual bucket seat for that of a real Peugeot. We also come across Glenn Kerckhofs in that same class; he traded in his BSSC2 Abarth for a Suzuki Swift entered in BSSC1. Returning from the past we have Vanderheyden and Philippe Huart, both at the wheel of a Fiesta (BSSC2), and Tom Werckx, with a BMW entered by JJ Motorsport in BSSC4.

Seeing the 25 Hours Fun Cup kicks off on Saturday midday, the two qualifying sessions will take place on Friday. On Saturday the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup opens the programme at 09.15hrs with a first sprint, with the competitors taking on the second and last one later on in the day at 14.35hrs.
